Professor DAI Daoxin named Optica fellows

Recent days, Optica (formerly OSA) announced its 2022 Fellows which include Prof. DAI Daoxin from the Zhejiang University College of Optical Science and Engineering. 106 scientists from 24 countries were newly elected as the Optica fellows.

Since 1959, over 2,800 members have joined the ranks of Fellow, accounting for no more than 10% of the total membership of the Optica. Prof. Dai was elected for his significant contributions to advanced passive silicon photonic devices.

These members exemplify what it means to be a leader in optics and photonics. Your election, by your peers, confirms the important contributions made within our field. said 2021 President Connie Chang-Hasnain, Whinnery Chair Professor Emerita of EECS at University of California, Berkeley, USA.

It is a great honor for me being recognized as Optica Fellow, said Prof. Dai. I have been working on silicon photonics for many years. I love it and enjoy the experiences of creating many interesting new structures to realize high-performance and high-density photonic devices. I will continue to work in this field to develop large-scale silicon photonic integrated circuits together with my colleagues and students at Zhejiang University.

Prof. Dai, Qiushi Distinguished Professor, serves as Dean of the College of Optical Science and Engineering and Director of Joint International Research Laboratory of Photonics at ZJU. The silicon integrated nanophotonics group under his leadership works on silicon integrated nanophotonic devices/circuits for optical communications, optical interconnects, as well as optical sensing. As one of the earliest researchers in China in this field, Prof. Dai has published over 230 refereed international papers. His papers have been cited by >13000 times (Google Scholar) and he has been one of Most Cited Chinese Researchers (from Elseviers report) since 2014. He has been invited to give more than 100 plenary/tutorial/keynote/invited talks on silicon photonics at many prDestigious international conferences including OFC 2016/2021. Currently he also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Optical and Quantum Electronics, the Topical Editor of Optics Letters, and the Associated Editor of IEEE Photonics Technology Letters.

Founded in 1916, Optica (formerly OSA) is a leading organization for scientists, engineers, business professionals, students and others interested in the science of light. Opticas renowned publications, meetings, online resources and in-person activities fuel discoveries, shape real-life applications and accelerate scientific, technical and educational achievements.
