Sino-German "Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer Incidence" study launched in Zhejiang University

From May 13th to May 15th, dozens of high-level Sino-German scholars in the field of pathology gathered in Zhejiang University. “Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer Incidence” study , led by Zhejiang University and the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, was officially launched and held its first working meeting. During the meeting, Chinese and German experts shared their research progresses on the topic of lymphoid hematopoietic tumor pathology, gastrointestinal and liver cancer, lung cancer, and “from molecular diagnosis to individualized treatment” etc.
At the end of 2010, with the guidance and assistance of the National Foundation of the German Science Foundation and the Sino-German Science Center, Department of Pathology of Zhejiang University and Institute of Pathology of University of Wuerzburg worked as the lead, united more than 10 top universities of the two countries related to Pathology research and built a research base for Sino-German “Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer Incidence”. The two sides will work closely to promote bilateral scientific exchanges and the development of tumor pathology, and share the new progresses and tumor pathology resources.
Professor MaodeLai, who is the Chinese leader of the project, member of Pathology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, vice president of Zhejiang University, and head of Department of Pathology, School of Medicine, said that Germany was not only the birthplace of pathology, but also the birthplace of modern medicine. Germans well combined classic medical with modern methods and set a good example. We hoped to promote the development of pathology in China through a series of substantive cooperation. “For example, the European network based on pathological samples is being established in Germany, while China also has set up its own institutions in the sample database. We are looking forward to building a database to converge their standards and joining the shared system.” said Professor MaodeLai.
Dozens of Sino-German leading experts in the field of pathology attended the meeting. Professor HKMueler-Hermelink, who is the German leader of the project, a famous authority of thymoma and malignant lymphoma in the world, discussed the latest progress of “lymphoid hematopoietic tumor pathology” with other scholars during the meeting. In addition, Professor Manfred Dietel, who is Chairman of German Pathology Institute and director of Institute of Pathology, Humboldt University, and Professor Peter Schirmacher, who is director Pathology of the University of Heidelberg which is one of the most famous German Institutes of Pathology, also reported at the meeting. Professor JieChen, former chairman of committee of the Chinese Medicine who comes from Department of Pathology, Beijing Union Medical College Hospital, Professor WeigangFang, deputy director of Department of Pathology , Peking University, and Professor BianxiuWu, chairman of committee of Chinese Medical Association who comes from Department of Pathology, Third Military Medical University, were also present at the meeting.
There were many young students attending the 3-day working meeting, who are graduate students of Department of Pathology of Zhejiang University, Peking University and Southern Medical University. They also participated in the face to face exchange with German experts.
It is said that “Molecular Mechanisms of Cancer Incidence” research project pays special attention to the communication and training of young scholars, and will turn out a lot of graduate students with a high level through international conferences, advanced training courses, etc.
